Saint Barthélemy; officially the Territorial collectivity of Saint Barthélemy is an overseas collectivity of France. Often abbreviated to Saint-Barth in French, or St. Barts in English, the indigenous people called the island Ouanalao. The ancient history of the island is dated to about 1000 BC when the Ciboney people attempted to settle here but left due to the lack of water, either for drinking or for practicing agriculture
Due to tight building regulations and price control, saint Barthelemy never became a big attraction for tourism and is home to many millionaires in the Caribbean. The residents of Saint Bathelemy live in one city; Gustavia and a dozen villages.
The warehouses of the port in Gustavia have been replaced by restaurants and tax free shops. A trip to Fort Gustave is a must to see the beautiful panoramic views and the Saint Barths historical museum.
