Beautiful Arabian sands meet crystal clear warm blue waters make Salalah a mecca for scuba diving enthusiasts. Beyond the beach however a lush micro system exists with wildlife including exotic birds exists attracting the interest of ornithologists from far and wide.
Salalah is a city of antiquity boasting the ruins of the fortified town Sumharam and maintaining its status as the main port in Southern Oman. Known as the perfume capital of Arabia the city is surrounded by lush green hillsides lined with frankincense trees and, unusually for an area normally associated with the desert, a range of wildlife normally associated with more humid environments such as leopards and hyenas.
Situated on the hills overlooking the city, the tomb of prophet Ayoub provides a fascinating destination for a day trip. Mughsayi beach, a short distance from the city, offers rare blowholes in the rock formations. Its possible to stand on metal grids in the rocks and witness the water shooting anything up to 15 meters in the air!.
