The town of Nessebar has about 10,000 inhabitants and extends over a small area; it lies 37km northeast of Bourgas. It is said that the beach on Nessebur is to be one of the finest along the Black Sea coast due to a large sandy strip of land between the town and the village of Ravda, covered with clean golden sand.

Nessebur connects to the mainland by a causeway and features many Byzantine churches throughout the cobbled streets. Nessebur is home to Pantokrator church built in the 14th century, the 10th century Church of St John the Baptist and the 6th Century Basilica ruins.
