Mossel Bay is a harbour town on the Southern Cape of South Africa. It is situated halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Mossel Bay is a coastal town on the world famous Garden Route. This popular town is surrounded by the waters of the Indian Ocean, and is known as the historical capital of the Garden Route.
Due to Mossel Bay’s rich history there are many interesting museums in the town to visit, such as the Maritime Museum which is home to the impressive life-size replica of Bartolomeu Diass caravel, the ship in which he sailed into Mossel Bay in the year 1488. Another popular attraction is the Post Office, which is estimated to be more than 800 years old and has recently been declared a National Monument. It is underneath a milk wood tree where Pedro dAtaide left a letter in 1500 in a sailors boot for passing ships. Letters are still posted there today still in a sailors boot. Mossel Bay is perfect for all water sport enthusiasts and also offers adrenalin induced activities such as shark cage diving, ship wreck diving and deep sea diving.
