Lipari is the largest of the Aeolian Islands and are named after the wind god, Aeolus. With such beautiful scenery, volcanoes, castles, thermal resorts, water sports, good fishing and stunning beaches there is little wonder that visitors flock to the island.
The main town also called Lipari, is a charming town that boasts a largely reconstructed Norman-era church and an archeological museum nearby, the remains of several towers and also some Greek and Roman ruins visible in the Diana District Archeological Park. The port of Lipari is quite small yet quite busy. The eastern slopes of the Island are richly cultivated and provide a feast for the eye in the height of the season. The large Ponente Beach is the island's greatest natural attraction today. Cuisine and the selection of sea food are excellent in Lipari and local people are always very hospitable.
