Honningsvag is situated at a bay on the southern side of Magerøya island, while the famous North Cape and its visitors centre is on the northern side.
It is the last village before Norway's North Cape, beyond which there is only icy water before you reache the North Pole. In this expanse of wilderness there is nothing to be found except maybe an occasional herd of reindeer. The Midnight Sun shines here from mid-May to the end of July. Honningsvåg's small Nordkapp Museum, illustrates the impact of early visitors to the Cape, Sami culture, and the hard days in the immediate aftermath of WWII. Nordkaap North Cape Rock, is over 1,000 feet above the sea and this rock marks the northernmost corner of Europe, No-one lives here permanently, the majestic cliff formation represents the final frontier to the Arctic Ocean. In 1988, the Royal North Cape Hall was opened within the cliff at North Cape. It has restaurants, a post office and souvenir shop, and all of it is situated four floors below ground. You can walk outside to the top of the cliff and enjoy the view, the North Cape is one of the most breathtaking sights any traveller will ever see.
