Holyhead is a port town and also the largest town on the island of Anglesey.
The area around Holyhead offers excellent fishing, golfing and, of course, sailing facilities. The area boasts wonderful scenery, idyllic walks and long stretches of lovely beaches.
Anglesey has a number of historic and prehistoric sites near by; these include burial chambers and a church in the sea at Porth Cwyfan Llys Rhosyr. The site of one of the most powerful and charismatic Welsh mediaeval princes has been discovered near the village of Newborough, which is situated on the south western corner of the island. The Maritime Museum in Holyhead has information and details regarding many shipwrecks that have taken place in and around the vicinity. Much of Holy Island is designated as an area of natural beauty, and includes many significant areas of Heritage Coastline. The area has a number of listed buildings and ancient monuments. The town centre has many cafes, restaurants and bars along with a bustling shopping area.
