Da Nang in central Vietnam is a bustling port on the South China Sea and one of the largest cities in Vietnam. Situated between mountainous terrain to one side and the sea on the other, the city is an important port today, yet during the Vietnam War it was its airport that was the key focus. Housing a US Air Force base the airport averaged 2,500 flights per day and was the busiest airfield in the world at the time.
The tourism sector is a vital component of Da Nang's economy. Its status as a transportation hub for Central Vietnam and its proximity to several Unesco World Heritage Sites, including the Imperial City of Huế, the Old Town of Hội An, and the Mỹ Sơn ruins fuels much of its tourist activity. Bà Nà Hills is a mountain resort with a 5 km-long cable car system which carries guests up to Bà Nà's peak at 1487m above sea level
