Adelaide Port is the perfect place to spend free time away from your cruise ship. The port itself offers many attractions and the good transport links mean you can easily access the main city centre for shopping and dining.
In the main port you can visit the National Railway Museum. Opened in 1963, visitors can ride in historic narrow-gauge carriages and visit the two large pavilions to learn about railway transport throughout Australia. Maritime enthusiasts will enjoy the South Australian Maritime Museum and collection of historic boats dotted along the harbour. There is also a Museum of Childhood and the South Australian Aviation Museum which houses many unique and historically interesting aircraft.
Just 14 kilometres southwest of the port is the City of Adelaide. Travel around the city is easy on the world’s first solar powered bus known as Tindo which means Sun in the Kaurna language.
If you do visit the city you must go to the Adelaide Central Market, a huge multicultural shopping centre selling a wide variety of goods including food, toys, jewellery, rugs, seafood, gourmet and organic items. It is the perfect place to pick up a souvenir or two and is one of Adelaide’s most famous landmarks.
