The ruins of ancient Olympia, dedicated to Zeus, the father of the Gods and located at the south-western foot of Mount Kronios is a ‘must see’ destination when visiting the port of Katakolon.  Our Olympia Treasures and History Tour departs by air-conditioned coaches or mini coaches from the port side for this great value tour.

Since 1829 when a French team partially excavated the Temple of Zeus and from 1975 to the present day The German Archaeological Institute continue to excavate the site. Olympia was the most religious and athletic centres in Greece and it is here that the Olympic Games were originally held – every four years –to honour Zeus.

Note 1st May - LABOUR DAY - All archaeological sites and museums in Greece will not be open to the public.

The visitors will have the chance to admire the Gymnasium, the Palaistra, the temple of Zeus, the temple of Hera, Hera's altar and finally the ancient stadium of Olympia from the outside. The tour guide will give a detailed tour about the history and mythology of the ancient Olympic Games. The tour guide also shows pictures of what all the monuments used to look like. This way they will get as much as possible, an idea of the site.
