We start our day in an area of Hobart with great historical importance as you are guided around Salamanca place. Both part of Sullivan’s cave and also the origins of Hobart itself.

Salamanca place consists of rows sandstone buildings, formerly warehouses for the port of Hobart, the town has a history of over 180 years. Today the area is bustling with craft shops, cafes, art galleries, theatres, pubs and restaurants. Named after the victory in 1812 of the Duke of Wellington in the battle of Salamanca, Wellington did not only influence the naming of this area but also Mt Wellington was named after him.

Travelling beyond Salamanca place you will experience for yourself Battery point, with special emphasis on the history of the battery of guns that used to protect Hobarts harbour, discover how Battery Point began its life as a maritime village.

Listen to the history of the Botanical gardens. Government house, the Tamsan Bridge and surrounding countryside as you head toward to the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary.

Get up close and personal later in the day at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, feed the Kangaroo’s, pat the Wombats, Koalas and of course have the opportunity to see the Tasmanian Devil (no patting unfortunately). As a Sanctuary Bonorong does not operate as a zoo, a sanctuary to local wildlife and the first ever Tasmanian wildlife hospital.

Then its time to head over to Richmond Village, a fantastic local sandstone timestamp of early colonial life. Home to the oldest built convict bridge 1823, the oldest currently operating Catholic Church 1836 & the oldest convict built Goal 1825 in Australia.

The village is now a haven for the arts & crafts, delicatessens and famous sweets & treats lolly shop. Your time here is self-guided after a loop around the village on board pointing out landmarks for your reference you can enjoy your time in Richmond village at your own pace.

After re-joining your guide, you will pass by Rosny point lookout for a once in a lifetime photo stop. With sweeping views of the Derwent river & valley, Mt Wellington, Hobart & its Harbour you will have some free time at this lovely viewpoint before heading back to your cruise ship.
